Tommy Shelby will be back on our screens again as Netflix announce the Peaky Blinders film is now in production on the highly anticipated feature film.
Peaky Blinders Film is an epic continuation of the multi-award-winning gangster saga, set in the lawless streets of Birmingham in the 1900s. Cillian Murphy reprises his role as the iconic ‘Tommy Shelby’ in the film written by the show’s creator, Steven Knight, who produces alongside Patrick Holland, Cillian Murphy and Guy Heeley. The film will be made in association with BBC Film.
The series ran successfully for six seasons on BBC. The cast lead by the such as Paul Anderson, Helen McCrory, Tom Hardy, and Joe Cole.
The streaming giants have sent us a first look image which shows Murphy as his iconic character.
Today we also find out joining the cast will be Rebecca Ferguson, Tim Roth, and Barry Keoghan. What roles they will be playing are still unknown, they will be joined by more new cast.
Writer and producer Steven Knight said: “I’m thrilled to see the cameras rolling on this new chapter of the Peaky Blinders story, set during World War II. The country is at war, and so, of course, are our Peaky Blinders.”
Director Tom Harper also commented “There’s a great feeling of anticipation and excitement amongst our outstanding cast and crew. We’re grateful to the fans for getting us to this point and believe this next chapter is going to deliver something extraordinary.”
I’m going to shockingly reveal I’ve never watched a full episode of the series that made a name for itself in the UK on BBC (Netflix Stateside). This film might be a starting point into the series which hopefully lead to a marathon catch up.
