Power Corrupts In UK Trailer For The Critic Starring Ian McKellen

Power corrupts, when ambition seduces in the UK Trailer from indie thriller The Critic starring Ian McKellen and Gemma Arterton.

We all know about those film critics and are not scared to say how it is. In Anand Tuckers film it’s all about the theatre critics who like their film version they possess acid tongues.

In The Critic, Ian McKellen in infamous 1930’s theatre critic Jimmy Erskine, feared by many of those on the stage. Nina (Arterton) seems to be the central target of many of Jimmy’s criticisms. Things start to change when Jimmy’s own personal life see himself a target.

Based on Anthony Quinn’s novel Curtain Call, The Critic is adapted by Academy Award® nominee Patrick Marber (Closer, Notes on a Scandal) and directed by Anand Tucker (Hilary & Jackie, Shopgirl). The film is produced by Jolyon Symonds for Fearless Minds and Bill Kenwright’s BK Studios.

London, 1934. When the most feared and vicious theatre critic in town Jimmy Erskine (McKellen), finds himself suddenly in the cross hairs of the Daily Chronicle’s new owner David Brooke (Strong), he strikes a Faustian pact with struggling actress Nina Land (Arterton) who is desperate to win his favour.

The Critic also stars Mark Strong, Ben Barnes, Alfred Enoch, Romola Garai, and Lesley Manville. It will be released in UK and Irish cinemas from 13th September.
