It’s has one of the most recognizable theme tunes in the world and next month you can relive the magic of ย Orson Welles The Third Man,in cinema near you.

Via its official selection in 2015 Cannes Classics (later this month), the film dubbed the best ever British film ever made by BFI making a rare cinema return in a new 4K Restoration.

They always say cinemas are centres for entertainment which is true but they are also centres to go and be educated in film folklore and when film’s like The Third Man come to cinemas, its essential viewing.It’s cinematic history and a must for those studying film or appreciate the finer qualities of film.

What’s The Third Man all about?

Holly Martins (Joseph Cotten), a writer of pulp Westerns, arrives in post-war Vienna on the invitation of his childhood friend Harry Lime. But on arrival he finds that Harry has recently been killed by a car whilst crossing the street, leaving a grief-stricken lover, Anna (Alida Valli). When local British investigating office Calloway (Trevor Howard) claims that Lime was an unsavoury criminal, Martins accepts an offer from a local book club to stay in Vienna in order to clear his friendโ€™s name. As he investigates his friendโ€™s last hours, he grows closer to the doomed Anna, and learns of an unidentified โ€œthird manโ€ at the scene of the accident, who may hold the key to the deepening mystery surrounding Harryโ€™s death.

instantly became a classic, winning the Grand Prix at Cannes, a BAFTA for Best British Film, and the Oscar for Best Cinematography for Robert Krasker. Featuring some of cinemaโ€™s most memorable set pieces and quotable lines, the filmโ€™s Viennese locations quickly etch themselves in the memory โ€“ the vast sewers, the Ferris wheel, the elegant avenues of its central cemetery. The city may have been bombed out and strewn with rubble, divided into four sectors by the Allies, but it still stood tall in all its faded grandeur.

The Third Man will get an limited UK Cinematic release from 26th June thereafter a new collectors Edition on Blu-ray and DVD available from 20th July. It will be packed with new extras including Martin Scorsese, Ben Wheatly discussing the film’s influence on their work.
