Original The Mummy Star Remains Without News of Returning to Sequel
Oded Fehr has starred in many franchise films, but he is perhaps best known for his role as the warrior Ardeth Bay in both The Mummy (1999) and The Mummy Returns (2001). Alongside Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz, the trio created such a well known crew in Stephen Sommersโ adventure films. Both Fehr and Weisz did not return for the third film of the franchise, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. Now that there is a fourth film on the horizon, Fehr has come out with disappointing news regarding his return.ย
For Star Trek: Starfleet Academy Fehr recently sat down with ScreenRantโs John Orquiola in an interview. Fehr told Orquiola that he has yet to be contacted about reprising his role in The Mummy franchise. He has even expressed his excitement and interest in returning to the project. That excitement aside, he remains just as in the dark as the public to whether or not he will be asked to return. In his interview, he understood and heโs โexcited that youโre excitedโ but that he has โno idea. I havenโt been contacted. I donโt know anything about it.โ
Orquiola stressed to Fehr how important his character is to the franchise. Though with or without his involvement Fehr still hopes the film comes to fruition, he would prefer for it to be with him. Fehr knows how important The Mummy and The Mummy Returns were for him as an actor and hopes to reunite with his former costars. He tells ScreenRant that he loves The Mummy, stating โItโs made me into working actor.โ He hopes โit happens, but I have not been contactedโ.ย
It was reported that the fourth instalment was in development in November 2025. The duo known as Radio Silence, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, are set to direct the project. Fraser and Weisz are said to both be returning. Fraser even praised the project in late 2025, telling Associated Press that the upcoming film is โthe one I wanted to make.โ He has โbeen waiting 20 years for this call.โย
Following a failed Tom Cruise reboot in 2017, The Mummy 4 also follows a new franchise instalment heading for release, Lee Croninโs The Mummy, on 17th April. Though part of the franchise, this new film is said to be a standalone and follow a more horror-esque approach.
Since November 2025, there has been no major news on the development of The Mummy 4. Yes we have had it stated Weisz and Fraser should be returning. But along with Fehr, John Hannah who played Evelynโs brother, Jonathan has also not been contacted about returning either. Telling RadioTimes that it โwould be fun to doโ.
With the little amount of news in recent months, any new development will definitely excite fans. Nothing has yet to be said about the fourth filmโs plot. But we remain to hope for Fehr and other original actors to return.
