The trailer has just been released online for anaudacious and twisted retellingof one of the most iconic horror stories of all time: Lee Croni’s The Mummy.

According to the official logline, the young daughter of a journalist disappears into the desert without a trace. Eight years later, the broken family is shocked when she is returned to them. Although what should be a joyful reunion turns into a living nightmare.

The film stars Jack Reynor, Laia Costa, May Calamawy, Natalie Grace, and Veronica Falcón. The film is written and directed by Cronin, and produced by James Wan, Jason Blum, and John Keville. The executive producers are Michael Clear, Judson Scott, Macdara Kelleher, and Lee Cronin. There is a team of established film artisans also involved in the production, including director of photography Dave Garbett, production designer Nick Bassett, editor Bryan Shaw, costume designer Joanna Eatwell, music by Stephen McKeon, and casting by Terri Taylor and Sarah Domeier Lindo.

The original 1932 film The Mummy starred Boris Karloff and followed a mummified ancient Egyptian priest who unleashes a powerful curse after he’s accidentally resurrected. The property then went on to become a beloved late-90s film franchise with Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz, as well as a 2017 failed reboot led by Tom Cruise. Whilst the more recent instalments were action-adventures, Cronin, best known for Evil Dead sequel Evil Dead Rises reimagines the ancient series as a gory thriller. This will be unlike any ‘Mummy’ movie you ever laid eyeballs on before,Cronin said when he was hired in 2024.I’m digging deep into the earth to raise something very ancient and very frightening.”

Lee Cronin‘s The Mummy will be released in the UK on 17th April, by Warner Bros. Pictures.
