Neon Releases First Teaser Trailer For Crime Drama Paper Tiger
Neon has released the first teaser trailer for the new family crime drama Paper Tiger, the latest feature from director James Gray (Ad Astra, The Lost City of Z).
The film, which stars Adam Driver (Marriage Story, BlacKkKlansman), Miles Teller (Whiplash, Top Gun: Maverick), and Scarlett Johansson (Her, Jojo Rabbit), is set in late-1980s New York City—specifically in Queens. The story follows two brothers, ex-cop Gary Pearl (Driver) and engineer Irwin Pearl (Teller), who are trying to pursue the American Dream when they become entangled in a scheme that eventually involves the Russian mafia.

As the brothers navigate through a world of corruption and violence, their bond begins to fray. Their entire family is also put at dangerous risk as they’re terrorised by the mob, including Irwin’s wife (Johansson), as well as sons Scott (Gavin Goudey) and Ben (Roman Engel).
Paper Tiger was written, directed, and produced by Gray, who has stated that the story is loosely based on his own family’s real-life encounters with the Russian mafia in 1980s New York City. Raffaella Leone and Rodrigo Teixeira also produced. The film had its World Premiere at the Cannes Film Festival back in May, where it received mostly positive reviews.
Neon has a limited theatrical release scheduled in the US for November 13th, followed by a nationwide expansion the week after. A distributor and date for a cinema release in the UK and Ireland are still TBD.
