Matthew Lillard Returning For Scream 7

In a huge and surprising piece of casting, Deadline is reporting that Matthew Lillard will return to the Scream franchise for the seventh installment, which is due next year. But how we ask?
If you know your Scream lore, Lillard played Stu in the first film in 1996, a horror-obsessed high schooler who was one of the two killers chasing Sidney (Neve Campbell) before he and his accomplice Billy (Skeet Ulrich) stabbed each other to try to avoid being caught, only for Sidney to drop a television on Stu’s head and Billy getting shot. So, how? Is he back from the dead, a classic horror genre trope? We shall see…
Lillard joins the returning Neve Campbell and Courtney Cox, with Scream 3 star Scott Foley also returning – he, too, is seemingly back from the dead – alongside Scream and Scream VI stars Mason Gooding and Jasmin Savoy Brown, with Isabel May, Celeste O’Connor, Asa Germann, Mckenna Grace, Sam Rechner, Anna Camp and Joel McHale already joining the film.
Franchise creator Kevin Williamson is directing, with Guy Busick, who wrote Scream 2022 and Scream VI, writing.
The previously installment, Scream VI, didn’t feature Campbell, but starred Cox, Melissa Barerra, Jenna Ortega, Dermot Mulroney, Liana Liberto, Jack Campion, Henry Czerny, Samara Weaving, and Hayden Panetierre, and grossed $169million. The franchise has so far grossed over $912million worldwide over six films.
Scream 7 is due in cinemas February 27th, 2026.
