Christopher Nolan’s latest masterpiece The Odyssey, released on July 17th 2026, has officially become the highest grossing R-rated film. As of today, it has surpassed Deadpool and Wolverine to reach this goal. Nolan’s retelling of this classic myth has collected currently $1.34 billion worldwide, with Marvel previously setting the bar at $1.33 billion in 2024. Christopher Nolan has made clear history here, also holding the fourth place at $983 million with Oppenheimer. His mark on this statistical history further heightens his impressive reputation.

Domestically, The Odyssey sits at $515 million, meaning it has the potential to become the front runner in this category to – with Reynold’s Deadpool and Wolverine having grossed $632 million. This films revenue continues to increase, and if the business remains steady into September this stands to be the current peak of Nolan’s career trajectory.

Christopher Nolan has very successfully demonstrated that his projects are deserving of a massive budget, and far beyond capable of making back what is spent.

This record may remain untouched for some time, and should be celebrated as a notable moment in cinema history particularly this year, a highlight in a summer of incredible creations.
