Matt Reeves Is Working Hard on His Next Batman Villain; Set To Be Foe “Not Seen Before”

The Batman Part II will have a villian we haven't seen before

Matt Reeves has dropped hints regarding the next villain of his Batman franchise. In conversation with Josh Horowitz at the Emmys earlier this week,ย the filmmaker emphasised that The Batman Part II will still very much be a Bruce Wayne story.

With an entire Roguesโ€™ Gallery to choose from, fans have speculated about who could follow Paul Danoโ€™s Riddler. But Reeves was adamant to highlight how integral his leading man still is:

โ€œI never wanted to lose Rob at the centre of these stories, so that is what we really set our aim on.โ€

Robert Pattinsonโ€™s portrayal of the Caped Crusader earned the actor widespread acclaim. It seems Reeves understands the impact Pattinson has made, saying, โ€œI always wanted the movies to be focused on his character.โ€

ย The director has still not commented on who a potential villain could be. With Hush or the Court of Owls being popular choices, Reeves stated that the right villain โ€œgoes into his past and his life, that was what drove the discussion.โ€

It seems as though the filmmaker has decided. Fans can brace themselves; it may be something never done before: โ€œWeโ€™re super excited, and I will say, itโ€™s never really been done in a movie before.โ€

Production is expected to begin next April. It is rumoured that, as well as Pattinson, Andy Serkis (Alfred), Colin Farrell (The Penguin/Oz) and Jeffrey Wright (Jim Gordon) will return, with Zoe Kravitz’s Selina Kyle not expected to return.

The Batman Part II is currently expected to release on October 1, 2027.
