Kathryn Hahn Officially Confirms Role of Mother Gothel in Disney’s Live-Action Tangled
Oh, she has done it. Mother truly knows best. Months after her fanbase had speculated and wished for it, Kathryn Hahn confirms she will be taking on the role of Mother Gothel in Disney’s live-action Tangled movie.
Best known for recent works, The Studio, Agatha All Along and WandaVision, Kathryn Hahn has just confirmed a casting announcement that quite a lot of the world has been waiting for. With Disney’s Live-Action Tangled movie in the works, the internet has been speculating on who may be cast for which roles. A great number of guesses and wants have been for Hahn to be cast as Mother Gothel. Today (March 10, 2026) is the day these wishes come true, with coverage from Deadline as well.
Though it was reported by Deadline in January 2026 that Hahn was in talks for the role, there has still been speculation surrounding the truth. Even back in October, Deadline discussed the developing idea of Scarlett Johansson playing Mother Gothel. According to them as well, Johansson could not take on the role due to prior commitments for Batman II and The Exorcist reboot.
After being asked several times at the 2026 awards shows whether or not she would be starring in the live-action Tangled, the time finally came for Hahn to reveal the truth. She took to Instagram and posted a reel with the answers the world had so long awaited. Sharing that she finally learned OOTD means Outfit of the Day, Hahn showed off an animated Mother Gothel collaged t-shirt. Not only did Hahn share the post, but it was also in collaboration with @DisneyStudios.

Though many will not care, Hahn’s fanbase of mainly queer women has been manifesting and fighting for this moment ever since the live-action film was announced. Just as they all guessed, their wishes (or fighting) have been granted. Then, funnily enough as well, Hahn’s Instagram handle since joining has been @MotherHahn. An entirely fitting and perhaps full-circle moment.
Director of Better Man and The Greatest Showman, Michael Gracey, is set to direct Jennifer Kaylin Robinson’s script (writer of Do Revenge and I Know What You Did Last Summer). It has also been confirmed that Milo Manheim (Zombies franchise) will star as Flynn Rider. Along with Manheim, Australian actress Teagan Croft will portray Rapunzel.
The original animation Tangled (2010), the retelling of the Brothers Grimm Rapunzel fairytale, grossed over $590 million worldwide. No dates have been set for the live-action, but this casting announcement provides greater hope than recent and upcoming Disney live-action films.
