Rachel Zegler has reflected on the intense backlash she faced following her casting as Snow White in Disney’s live-action remake, describing the period as a confusing and challenging moment early in her career.

Zegler, who first rose to prominence with her breakout role in West Side Story, found herself at the centre of an online debate after it was announced she would play the iconic Disney princess alongside Gal Gadot’s Evil Queen. Much of the criticism came from viewers questioning her casting, while others used the moment to debate the wider issue of modernising classic stories.

Speaking recently about the experience, Rachel Zegler said the reaction highlighted the strange and often contradictory scrutiny placed on actors, particularly those with mixed heritage.
