Interview: Kenji Tanigaki On His Action Epic, The Furious
A pinnacle of modern action filmmaking, Kenji Tanigaki has redefined the genre with his works on films starring Donnie Yen, such as SPL: Kill Zone and Raging Fire, as well as the incredible Rurouni Kenshin, and most recently with his action design on Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In. Most recently, Tanigaki has directed a film for the ages with The Furious. Hot off its heels from its World Premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, we caught up with the director Tanigaki to discuss his latest action epic.
The Furious follows a mute Chinese father, whose daughter was just kidnapped. Driven by fury, he embarks on a relentless mission to find his daughter at any cost. During his quest, he crosses paths with Navin (Joe Taslim), who is searching for his wife Matia, who has been missing for months after investigating other kidnappings.
Kenji Tanigaki discusses how he continues to evolve with the times, including martial arts cinema, and what it was like collaborating with action choreographer Kensuke Sonomura.
