Interview: Brec Bassinger and Aliyah’s Interlude on Gloriously Entertaining Buzzkill
Ahead of the release of Tubi‘s horror-comedy Buzzkill, we had the chance to sit down with stars Brec Bassinger and Aliyah’s Interlude to talk about the film, its gloriously chaotic premise, and what makes it one of the most entertaining watches of the Halloween season.
For audiences in the UK who might not have heard of the film yet, Aliyah’s Interlude has a simple pitch: “It’s a chick flick, but that’s also a slasher. I’d compare it to Bodies Bodies Bodies and Jennifer’s Body. It’s really just a girly film that is going to be cult classic vibes.” Before Bassinger is quick to add her own spin: “and then throw in a little Booksmart. There’s a scene in this movie that very much replicates a scene in Booksmart. It’s chaotic and campy in all the best ways, but then there’s so much blood.”

With the film landing on Tubi ahead of Halloween, the question of how best to experience it feels important. Both stars are in agreement: with friends. “Especially if you’re a girl,” says Aliyah’s Interlude. “It’s such a chick flick. A Buzzkill 4D screening would go crazy, though.” Bassinger has a more specific recommendation: “With your friends, and weirdly enough with the remote, because there are so many chaotic things that happen. It’s one of those where you need to pause, rewind, watch it again to make sure you really grasp the chaos.”
Synopsis: When a group of sorority sisters find themselves trapped with a vengeful killer, party girl Nora knows that the drunker she gets, the more her tipsy memories start revealing clues about who’s murdering her friends. It’s written by Suzanne Keilly (Slumber Party Massacre) and directed by Jem Garrard (R.L. Stine’s Pumpkinhead) and stars Siena Agudong, Brec Bassinger and Aliyah’s Interlude.
