3 Young women sit in the back of a car in a desert area in horror anthology Southbound.

Fear comes in many forms and one favourite is horror genre and next month the latest horror anthology Southbound will make it’s UK premiere at Glasgow Film Festival. Part of the Film 4 Frightfest strand, we get our first look at the anthology’s trailer …

No matter what road you choose, all roads are going south, but in February the roads lead to Film4 Frightfest‘s second home in Glasgow. Genre cinema is an art fuelled by teamwork and nowhere is this more self-evident than in this chiller compendium revealing a circle of death. From the creators of the V/H/S franchise come Southbound tells five interlocking tales of terror following the fates of weary travellers who confront their worst nightmares – and murkiest innermost secrets – over one long night on a desolate stretch of desert highway. Youโ€™ll witness two blood-soaked men on the run from supernatural horrors, an all-girl band taken in by a strange family, a man who has to perform emergency surgery with spooky 911 assistance, a home invasion and a rescue mission that goes horribly awry. The Crypt-keeper would be so pleased!

Whilst a general film audience might be on a negative right away when it comes to horror anthologies but having the UK premier at frightfest might be the best test for the film. Horror critics lucky enough to have seen the film have given the film the thumbs and even V/H/S Viral wasn’t strongest of films the first two films solid films with Roxanne Benjamin, David Bruckner, Patrick Horvath and the Radio Silence, so expect so decent scares. This is one ride a seatbelt won’t save you.

Southbound is a grim and gritty excursion into the dark side of the soul. Catch it’s UK Premiere at Frightfest Glasgow 25th February, no word on the official release however Studiocanal UK will be releasing it in UK. The film stars Kate Beahan, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Susan Burke.
