Five Gambling Films Worthy of Your Time

Lock Stock Two Smoking Barrells

There is something strangely enticing about the romanticised world of gambling. It’s hard not to enjoy with free bingo. Whether it is the heist movie, tales of gangsters, or the art of playing the games there is a rich world of colour and extravagance that is fun to watch. There is also the darker side too which can be just as gripping.
Here are five gambling films that are well worth watching, and that find a balance between the good side and the bad:

lๅฃฑ Casino

Martin Scorseseโ€™s Casino feels like a sequel to Goodfellas, though it isnโ€™t. Teaming Robert de Niro and Joe Pesci up again is a masterstroke, and they put in memorable performances for good reasons and bad. While Robert de Niro is as charismatic as ever, Pesci continues his ability to be one of the most intimidating and evil people on screen. You wonโ€™t forget this film in a hurry.

lๅฃฑ Oceanโ€™s Eleven

When it comes to Oceanโ€™s Eleven it is hard to pick between the original or the remake. While the original featured the Sinatraโ€™s โ€œRat Packโ€, George Clooneyโ€™s collection of a-list stars donโ€™t let him down. One of the better heist movies to be based on performing a heist in a casino, you canโ€™t go wrong with this film.

lๅฃฑ Casino Royale

When it was revealed that Daniel Craig would be the new James Bond there were many unsure of how well he would do. After Casino Royale though and the tense poker scenes he not only won over the fans, but created one of the most memorable gambling games ever to be put on screen.

lๅฃฑ Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels

Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels not only pushed Guy Ritchie into the spotlight for his directorial style, but also introduced us to Jason Statham too. With some top UK talent in action in the film, the cheeky cockney style of the film make it one that is hard to forget.

lๅฃฑ Rounders

A film featuring enigmatic performances by Matt Damon and Ed Norton is always going to get the attention of film fans. The tale of a poker player who tries to retire but is pulled back in by his criminal friend to pay off an old debt makes for tense watching. With fine performances not only from Damon and Norton, but also Gretchen Mol youโ€™d be a fool not to watch this one.

Iโ€™m sure youโ€™ve got your own favourite gambling movies, but these are just a few we have selected as worthy of watching. There are plenty more out there, both classic and new just waiting to be discovered, so why not take a gamble and give them a watch?
