While Bingo isn’t the type of game that seems exciting it still seems to find its place in popular culture. This includes in television shows that have used it as a tool for both comedy and drama. Both fun and sociable, it seems that this is one game that refuses to go anywhere.

Bad Grandpa

Johnny Knoxville has done some brave pranks in Jackass, one of them being dressing as an old man by the name of Irving Zisman and causing chaos. This character worked so well at being offensive that he even got his own film in the form of Bad Grandpa.

In one of the more infamous but also funny scene is when he decides to go play bingo and also try his hand at chatting up the other players. Testing their limits, he did get weird when he decided to drink the marker fluid, but endearingly all the other players seemed to find his zany act fun, even if they weren’t part of the joke.

Better Call Saul

To see Saul call a bingo game is slightly odd at first, but also endearing of the character. The scene is important though as it gives him a chance to have a mini breakdown of sorts and rant at his slightly bemused patrons at the retirement home. One of the most memorable scenes of season one it works to give Saul the momentum he needs to make some changes in his life.

Curb Your Enthusiasm

Larry David perfected the art of being awkward and slightly offensive to people, and his attempt at playing bingo goes exactly as expected. Playing the game while visiting his father in the retirement home it provides plenty of laughs for the audience.

Babadook

With a change of pace from the scenes mentioned above, Babadook is a much darker choice. When Amelia calls a bingo game for the residents in the retirement home where she works, it shows the monotony of her life. When she dares to liven things up, she is admonished for her actions, which highlights how society restricts her. What this shows though is how even in the darkest times games like bingo can bring a little fun, even if it’s frowned upon.
