First Trailer for Obsession Teases a Twisted Supernatural Love Story

Obsession trailer

The first full trailer for Obsession has arrived, offering a disturbing glimpse at a twisted supernatural love story from filmmaker Curry Barker.

Barker, who first gained attention online with his viral horror shorts, writes, directs and edits the film. The story follows Bear, played by Michael Johnston, a lonely music shop employee who has long harboured feelings for his childhood friend Nikki, portrayed by Inde Navarrette. In a moment of desperation, Bear turns to a mysterious object known as the “One Wish Willow”, making a supernatural wish for Nikki to fall in love with him.

The wish appears to work, but not in the way Bear expects. Nikki’s affection quickly spirals into something far more intense and unsettling, transforming a romantic fantasy into a dangerous obsession. The film leans into the classic “be careful what you wish for” premise, with the magical wish unleashing consequences that grow increasingly disturbing.

Alongside Johnston and Navarrette, the film also stars Cooper Tomlinson, Megan Lawless and Andy Richter. The project marks a significant step for Barker, whose earlier work built a dedicated audience online before leaping into feature filmmaking.

The film has already generated buzz following its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, where it screened in the Midnight Madness section and drew attention for its darkly comic tone and unsettling premise, purchased by Focus Features and Blumhouse. Blending supernatural horror with an offbeat romantic premise, Obsession looks set to turn a familiar fairy-tale idea into something far more sinister when it arrives in cinemas next year.

Obsession is set for cinemas on May 15th.
