Final Trailer for ‘Godzilla Minus Zero’ Released
Toho and GKIDS Films have released the final trailer for Godzilla Minus Zero, the sequel to their Oscar-winning Godzilla Minus One.
Godzilla Minus One followed a devastated post-WWII Japan as the country is hit by a new wave of devastation unleashed by Godzilla. This film, a sequel, takes place two years later in 1949 as Japan tries to step away from the nightmares of war and monsters. It’s the first ever Japanese production that was filmed for IMAX. It is the same writer and director from the first film, Takashi Yamazaki, with Shirogumi also returning to do visual effects.

The first film grossed $116 million from a $15 million budget, which made it the highest-grossing live-action film to debut in Japan during 2023 and the third highest-grossing non-English-language film in the U.S. market. It also attained numerous accolades, including a leading 12 nominations at the 47th Japan Academy Film Prize (winning eight) as well as winning Best Visual Effects at the 96th Academy Awards.
In his three-star review for The People’s Movies, Robert Ewing said, “Godzilla Minus Zero should have been a natural improvement on its predecessor, but instead it is, for better or worse, more of the same. Its nationalist approach to kaiju storytelling may be, but the monster sequences are undeniably spectacular, surpassing anything currently being offered by the American incarnation of the franchise. While I did not hate what I was watching, I was nevertheless taken aback by the nationalism on display.”
Godzilla Minus Zero opens in cinemas on November 6th.
