To celebrate the upcoming release of Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens Madame Tussauds has created an exhibition of classic scenes from the science fiction franchise.
For over a year nearly 200 sculptors created figures from both the original and prequel trilogies. The detail of the waxworks is quite amazing; every mole/lump on Ewan McGregor’s face has been painstakingly recreated.
Thankfully the exhibition contains mostly characters and situations from the original trilogy, giving the much maligned prequels only four wax models. The highlights are undoubtedly the chance to sit opposite Han Solo in a recreation of the infamous Greedo stand-off (infamous unfortunately due to George Lucas’ endless tampering with what was once such a great scene), standing where Luke desperately held on with Darth Vader reaching towards you telling you an uncomfortable truth, and sitting by Leia in her skimpy golden bikini and a full sized Jabba the Hutt.
Madame Tussaurds is a remarkably busy museum so you may have to wait a while to get your photo with your favourite characters. You enter the room at the same time after a screening of the Marvel 4D film so at first the exhibition is incredibly crammed. It may be worth standing back a bit if you want to get a good look at each model. The exhibition is also quite small, this is due to just how long it takes to create each waxwork, so do not go if you expect to see all your favourite characters (Boba Fett is noticeably missing).
All of this does not take away however from a collection of very impressive replicas of some of the most memorable Star Wars moments. This may not take you to a galaxy far far away but it does provide some great photo opportunities.
