Noah Baumbach and Greta Gerwig have reunited again in Mistress America, after previously working together on Frances Ha and Greenberg. As with Frances Ha, Gerwig has joined the director on writing duties, which looks to be more of a screwball comedy than some of Baumbach’ earlier films, yet continues with the strong female friendships theme and young people trying to find their place in the world that we saw in Frances Ha.
Synopsis – In MISTRESS AMERICA, Tracy (Lola Kirke) is a lonely college freshman in New York, having neither the exciting university experience nor the glamorous metropolitan lifestyle she envisioned. But when she is taken in by her soon-to-be stepsister, Brooke (Greta Gerwig) – a resident of Times Square and adventurous gal about town – she is rescued from her disappointment and seduced by Brooke’s alluringly mad schemes.
Although Mistress America only has a US release date at the moment (14th August for our American readers), Baumbach and Gerwig are usually a big draw this side of the pond too, so don’t be surprised if the film is released later this year/early next year.
