2012 is shaping up to be the year of the fairytale films with Tarsem Singh’s cheap panto looking Snow White Mirror Mirror , the darker retelling of Snow White in Snow White And The Huntsman, Hansel And Gretel Witch Hunters and this JACK THE GIANT KILLER! Warner Bros tonight have launched the first trailer which is meant to be a more grown up version of The Jack & The Beanstalk fairytale which is directed by Bryan Singer in his long awaited return to the directors chair which he last sat on directing Valkyrie with Tom Cruise. Gone is the campness of the 1962 version with Jack then played Kerwin Matthews now Nicholas Hoult (X-Men First Class), gone are the clay monsters of Ray Harryhausen replaced by the state of the art technology in a version may look a little too seriously possibly it’s just our sense of fun and humour has changed in the 50 years since the original version. Jack The Giant Killer is a fantasy epic of a young farmer boy who accidentally re-ignites a ancient war between humans and giants opening the gate between the two worlds.

This trailer is essentially a teaser should be, giving us very little but enough to make us want to see more everything does look good, decent tone but it is early days and I’m keen to see more. The film wont be out until Summer June 15th 2012 and will star Nicholas Hoult, Stanley Tucci, Ian McShane, Bill Nighy, Eleanor Tomlinson, Ewan McGregor.

* A Big thanks to Warner Bros who have sent us the UK Version of the trailer, enjoy!*

Jack the Giant Killer tells the story of an ancient war that is reignited when a young farmhand unwittingly opens a gateway between our world and a fearsome race of giants. Unleashed on the Earth for the first time in centuries, the giants strive to reclaim the land they once lost, forcing the young man, Jack, into the battle of his life to stop them. Fighting for a kingdom, its people, and the love of a brave princess, he comes face to face with the unstoppable warriors he thought only existed in legendโ€”and gets the chance to become a legend himself.
