Ashley Walters Directorial Debut Animol Gets First Trailer!

Sky have dropped the official first UK Trailer for the highly anticipated directorial feature debut of Ashley Walters, Animol.

The film stars Long Walk Home star Tut Nyuot along with Vladyslav Baliuk, Sharon Duncan Brewster and Stephen Graham.

Written by Nick Love (The Football Factory, A Town Called Malice), Animol is described as a story of survival and connection. Troy (Nyout) is sent to a detention centre where he meets 2 others who will change his life. Vulnerable and facing the harshness of life behind bars…

The only other directorial experience the British actor has is directing episodes of Channel 4 Drama Ackley Bridge. This made it’s world premiere a way back at Berlin and the early reviews have been very good. Many commenting on Nyuot’s performance, some calling it exceptional and if you enjoyed the likes of Wasteman you’ll enjoy this.

Ashley Walters was asked about his film, trailer… “I make movies because I want to entertain people but it’s important that it creates a conversation, and I really do think Animol will. I want to show this genre of film in a different light to what we’ve seen before in the UK. I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve created and I am excited for audiences to get a taste of Animol in our new trailer ahead of the premiere at London Film Festival“.

Synopsis | Behind the walls of a juvenile detention centre, Troy (Tut Nyuot) is thrust into a brutal world of gangs, loyalty, and violence. From the moment he arrives, he is tested. Paired with a volatile cellmate, Troy is forced to deal with daily threats and power struggles. An unspoken bond with a fellow inmate offers solace in the oppressive environment, but their growing connection becomes a dangerous vulnerability.

Animol will be in UK and Irish cinemas later this year. Before then the film will make it’s UK premiere at BFI London Film Festival on 11th October [more info/book].
