Netflix Release Trailer For 'Below', Starring Josh Hartnett

Netflix has released the trailer for its six-episode sea creature-themed series Below, starring Josh Hartnett.

Set on the coast of Newfoundland, the trailer shows Hartnett as fisherman Calvin Penney, a big‑hearted but stubborn man haunted by the mysterious death of his father decades earlier. Years later and with a family of his own, an unidentified sea creature begins terrorising his hometown.

Determined to keep his son Wade and the rest of his family and community safe, he teams up with a visiting marine researcher, Fonda Howander, to confront the creature and reveal the island’s buried secrets before it’s too late…

Charlie Heaton stars as Wade and Mackenzie Davis as Fonda. The series also stars Ruby Stokes, Kaleb Horn, Rohan Campbell, and Willow Kean.

The series, which blends “multiple genres including local mythology, suspense and humour”, is created by Jesse McKeown. Jessica Rhoades (through her company Pacesetter), Chris Hatcher, Hartnett, Jamie Childs, Louise Sutton and Sharon Hall are all Executive Producers.

Karen Walton, Perry Chafe and Natty Zavitz are credited as series writers, with Child, Helen Shaver, and Stephen Dunn directing.

Harnett’s additional TV acting credits include Hulu’s The Bear and the Black Mirror episode Beyond the Sea, alongside Aaron Paul. He has also featured in 2020’s Paradise Lost, as well as Drunk History and Penny Dreadful. The actor’s film debut came in 1998’s Halloween H20: 20 Years Later, before appearing in The Faculty the same year, Virgin Suicides, Pear Harbour, Sin City and Oppenheimer.

He is also due to appear in the book adaptation, Verity, and Oliver Stone’s White Lies.

Meanwhile, McKeown is also credited with writing on 2014’s 19-2, 2003’s The Big Charade and 2019’s The Umbrella Academy. He is also listed on The Sinner, The Romeo Section and Rogue.

Below premiered at TIFF on Thursday, 10th September, ahead of its global release on Netflix on 8th October.
