Destin Daniel Cretton to direct Paramount's new "Hawaii Five-O"

Paramount Pictures has officially opened the door for a new film adaptation of the timeless classic 60s TV show Hawaii Five-O. An American police procedural, the show followed an elite task force running investigations on major crime in Hawaii.

Created by Leonard Freeman and starring Jack Lord, Hawaii Five-O has had previous attempts to get their movie, but lawsuits and essentially paperwork issues has always blocked the path. Nevertheless, the time is now and helmer Destin Daniel Cretton is leading the charge.

The Dish tells that Cretton will be developing the project to direct, and though this is just the beginning the wave is beginning to grow some momentum. His recent success with Spider-Man: Brand New Day raises high expectations, as he put the franchise on solid ground with Sony Pictures and has been strong at the top of box office rankings since the release, reaching $2.4 billion in global ticket sales.

Cretton will direct with the Bad Boys for Life scribe Chris Bremner writing the script paired with Noah Oppenheim.

The offer was given to Paramount first with the original TV series and the 2010 remake being homed at CBS. The estate of series creator Leonard Freeman created this package and wll be greatly involved, with Guymon Casady producing.

Given enough attention and enthusiasm, this is an opportunity for a strong crime procedural offering a great leading role in a stunning location. The 2010 CBS remake was a hit, demonstrating the potential audience reception to come for a well-made movie.
