A Greek Warrior looks on in an arena in Nolan's The Odyssey.

Universal Pictures (via Deadline) has confirmed that an extended, 6-minute trailer for Christopher Nolan‘s upcoming epic, The Odyssey, will premiere at 70mm IMAX screenings this December.

This new prologue for the film will play in front of 70mm IMAX screenings of One Battle After Another and Sinners during their re-releases in the US, starting from December 12th. The Odyssey is the first film to be shot entirely with IMAX cameras, meaning these 70mm screens are the optimal way to view it.

There will be a shorter version of this prologue that will play with all screenings of Avatar: Fire and Ash from the 19th December onwards. The extended version is also set to run ahead of IMAX screenings of the new Avatar film as well.

The film, which is an adaptation of Homer’s poem of the same name, stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyongโ€™o, Charlize Theron, Jon Bernthal, Benny Safdie, Elliot Page and many more.

Holland is set to play Telemachus and has praised Nolan’s work, saying, โ€œthe script is the best script Iโ€™ve ever read,โ€ earlier this year in an interview with Agence France-Presse. He also went on to say that Nolan โ€œis a real collaborator, he knows what he wantsโ€ฆ but it is not an environment where you canโ€™t pitch ideas or build characters in certain ways.โ€

The Odyssey is set for release in UK and Ireland cinemas on 17th July, 2026.
