Disney Pixar’s Coco We Travel To The Land Of The Dead

It’s been a hard few years for Pixar after years of original animated features, they decided to bring back some of their ‘classics’ for a sequel. Notably, Finding Nemo sequel Finding Dory delivering a mixed bag of reactions, ‘So when will they get back on track?’ I hear you say? Behold the animation giants haven’t fallen yet and this December, Coco (an original feature) will arrive in Cinemas and today we get a look at the first UK trailer and it’s sublime. Check it out…

Last week we teased Disney Pixar‘s next feature with a poster and the announcement of this trailer. Now that day has arrived and wonderful looking trailer packs a lot of emotion, as Toy Story 3‘s director Lee Unkrich on an enchanted journey. A journey that shares parallels with another young boy’s journey in Kubo And The Two Strings, this time into The Land Of The Dead in Mexico’s Day Of The Dead celebrations. This is not Kubo.

Despite his family’s baffling generations-old ban on music, Miguel (voice of newcomer Anthony Gonzalez) dreams of becoming an accomplished musician like his idol, Ernesto de la Cruz (voice of Benjamin Bratt). Desperate to prove his talent, Miguel finds himself in the stunning and colourful Land of the Dead following a mysterious chain of events. Along the way, he meets charming trickster Hector (voice of Gael García Bernal), and together, they set off on an extraordinary journey to unlock the real story behind Miguel’s family history.

Even the best have their bad days and there’s no shame in that and Pixar have not a disaster but more bumpy days, never underestimate them. Coco won’t be the only Pixar movie in 2017 with the Summer release of Cars 3 which on paper Coco looks the superior movie, though Cars 3 probably be stronger at the box office.

The visual appeal of this film is wonderful, vibrant but what I really like is the fact this trailer is not all about those visuals. It’s focused on our lead character, emotionally testing Miguel like Riley in Inside Out. It’s a long way to go until release this looks very promising (as does Cars 3 which looks a different prospect to its 2 predecessors), Just go to see Pixar back on the original band waggon once again.

Coco is set for 1st December 2017 UK&Irish release date.
