No matter what you thought of the franchise, you can’t deny The Matrix was one of the biggest sci-fi franchise in cinematic history. It had some of the most famous unique fight scenes in industry’s history so does it surprise you there maybe a reboot in the works? No.
“This is your last chance. After this, there is no turning back. You take the blue pill? The story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill? You stay in Wonderland and I show you how deep the rabbit-hole goes.”
With som many old movies alongside TV shows from the 1980’s and 1990’s coming back as feature movies or new series, it was only a matter of time The Wachowski’s masterpiece was been considered for a reboot. They gave the science fiction genre another lease of life as well as inspiring many other filmmakers. The technology of today especially the Internet was in its infancy which made The Matrix an even more intriguing movie away back in 1999.
The Hollywood Reporter broke the news on the gossip and that Warner Bros wanting to choose what colour of pill to take once again. They are stating Zak Penn (Ready Player One, Last Action Hero, X-Men: The Last Stand) is onboard to write the script with Creed’s Michael B.Jordan to star. What role he’s been considered for Neo or Morpheus is unknown.
Lilly and Lana Wachowski involvement has not been mentioned yet. When you deposit over $1.6 billion into the bank account at Warner Bros it would be inconsiderate not too. Even if that’s in an executive producer role or just to get their blessing for the project, however, if the pair did they would want to take creative control.
When it became ‘trendy’ to reboot classic movies into full on TV Series this was one of those movies been considered for a TV adaptation. Warner Bros weren’t keen on this version, The Matrix producer Joel Silver was, but it does seem if this project goes ahead they may be looking to make more than one movie. Warner Bros were intrigued by the newly expanded Star Wars model and may want many movies alongside spin-offs.
The Matrix reboot is still in development, stay tuned!
