Based on the acclaimed book Denial: Holocaust History on Trial, Denial recounts Deborah E. Lipstadt’s (Academy Award® winner Rachel Weisz) legal battle for historical truth against David Irving (BAFTA nominee Timothy Spall), who accused her of libel when she declared him a Holocaust denier. In the English legal system, in cases of libel, the burden of proof is on the defendant, therefore it was up to Lipstadt and her legal team led by Richard Rampton (Academy Award® nominee Tom Wilkinson), to prove the essential truth that the Holocaust occurred.
It’s astonishing that a person must go to the highest courts in the land to prove such things as this movie is based around is disgusting. With so much evidence from, books to movies to personal accounts to prove it did happen makes you ashamed. It’s crazy to know there are people out there who believe the outrageous things David Irving said too which makes this an engaging movie you want to watch.
It has all the makings of a movie that should be considered for potential awards, it received mixed reviews at Toronto. Rachel Weisz has always been on the whim of an acclaimed performance, could this be that performance? With the highly underrated Timothy Spall and Tom Wilkinson an education not just in history but in acting.

Denial is set for a UK&Irish release date of 27th January 2017, which just also happens to be National Holocaust Day too. The movie also stars Andrew Scott and Mark Gatiss. The movie is directed by Mick Jackson, the man who brought us The Bodyguard and the terrifying TV movie Threads.
