We may groan when certain movies here in UK&Ireland get released months after it’ s American release. Sometimes that can be a blessing like Mel Gibson‘s Hacksaw Ridge. The movie was recently released Stateside to some fantastic reviews and has created a massive buzz for UK cinephiles. Now Lionsgate Films have set the release date for January they celebrate that announcement with 2 powerful clips, check them out…
Hacksaw Ridge is the extraordinary true story of Desmond Doss (BAFTA winner and Golden Globe nominee Andrew Garfield) who, in Okinawa during the bloodiest battle of WWII, saved 75 men without firing or carrying a gun. He was the only American soldier in WWII to fight on the front lines without a weapon, as he believed that while the war was justified, the killing was nevertheless wrong. As an army medic, he single-handedly evacuated the wounded from behind enemy lines, braved fire while tending to soldiers and was wounded by a grenade and hit by snipers. Doss was the first conscientious objector awarded the Congressional Medal of Honour.
Desmond was no ordinary soldier, a medic and it’s wonderful he’s getting a fitting tribute because he stuck up for his faith and beliefs but honoured his duties. It was one of the bloodiest battles of World War two and Desmond achieved the impossible. Could this movie lead the impossible to possible and gain Andrew Garfield to Oscar glory if not at least Oscar nomination?
Fantastic turnaround for Mel Gibson hose last 10 years he’s been trying to forget and rebuild and with this movie he’s built a foundation to focus up and upwards.
