On April 20th, 2010, the worldโ€™s largest man-made disaster occurred on the Deepwater Horizon in the Gulf of Mexico. Directed by Peter Berg, this story honours the brave men and women whose heroism would save many on board, and change everyoneโ€™s lives forever.

To be honest this is an disaster which I don’t know or even heard of until now. That’s not been disrespectful in anyway or does it mean that a film shouldn’t be made to tell the story of what happened. My one concern is Berg is a decent filmmaker which he proved with The Lone Survivor, it’s he reminds me too much of Michael Bay, in tone, delivery over usage of patriotism. However this film will dramatise the story of those caught in the middle of what happened. The valiant courage of those men and women who fight to survive and contain the disaster, will be interesting to see if Berg will go a little political delving into the consequences of a disaster. Cover ups, swept under the carpet, interference.

If you enjoyed The Perfect Storm, this one may just interest you. It looks a solid, would J.C Chandor (A Most Violent Year) deliver a better film? It would have been a different type of film but as in a better film we couldn’t say. But what we see is lots of intensity, which really captures those involved struggle but will a 10 year old explaining the A-Z of oil drilling with a Coke can do the trick for you?

Deepwater Horizon arrives in UK in September 2016. The film stars Mark Wahlberg, Kurt Russell, John Malkovich, Gina Rodriguez, Dylan Oโ€™Brien and Kate Hudson.
