Dan Trachtenberg Teases Arnie’s Return To Predator Franchise At SDCC
At San Diego Comic Con this past weekend (via Deadline), it was teased by director Dan Trachtenberg that Arnold Schwarzenegger‘s Dutch from the original 1987 movie Predator could make a return to the series.
The Hall H panel for Predator: Badlands, which took place on Friday, saw a few surprises for fans of the franchise. During the panel, Trachtenberg debuted an extended epilogue for last month’s animated Predator movie Killer of Killers which saw Schwarzenegger’s Dutch, Danny Glover‘s Lt. Mike Harrigan from Predator 2 and Amber Midthunder‘s Naru from Prey all in cryogenic sleep on the Predator’s home world.
After this footage was shown to the audience, Trachtenberg teased that he is hoping to “cook up stuff for that guy” in a live-action capacity after a recent meeting he had with Schwarzenegger over breakfast.
It was revealed by Trachtenberg that he got the approval of Schwarzenegger to use his likeness for the new epilogue. Schwarzenegger last appeared on screen as Dutch in John McTiernan‘s 1987 movie, which kick-started the series. Now that the character has reappeared in this new edit of Killer of Killers means there is a high chance we could see the character in another live-action Predator sooner rather than later.
Badlands, which will star Elle Fanning, marks the third project in the franchise that Trachtenberg will have directed, following on from Prey and Killer of Killers in the Predator lore. Fan and critical reception to these new instalments have been very positive, with many glad to see the future of the series left entirely in Trachtenberg’s hands. With Badlands arriving later this year and rumours of an Alien vs Predator movie co-directed with him and Alien: Romulus director Fede Alvarez, the possibilities for where the franchise could go are near endless.
Predator: Badlands opens on November 7th.
