Skydance, the merged deal between Warner Bros. and Paramount, which was completed earlier this month, has seen its second top-spot weekend at the box office with the release of DCU’s Clayface, DC’s first horror movie directed by James Watkins from a script by Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini. The film, based on the Batman villain of the same name, stars Tom Rhys Harries as an upcoming, award-nominated actor, Matt Hagen, who is left facially disfigured at the hands of a mob boss attack and is left careerless and isolated. Additional stars include Naomi Ackie, David Dencik,ย Max Minghella, andย Eddie Marsan.

Coming in as the third installment to the new DCU following James Gunn’s Superman and Craig Gillespie’s Supergirl, Watkins’ Clayface has grossed a global total of $46.5 million from US/Canadian ticket sales of $24ย million and international ones of $22.5ย million, meaning it has made $16.5 million from its budget of $30 million. This also places Watkins’ fifth feature as having the third-best performance during its opener in the new DC cinematic universe, with Superman’s $220 million opening from $122 million in American and Canadian sales and $95 million overseas taking the top spot, followed byย Supergirl grossing $37.1 million in North American territories and $25.5 million internationally to come to the global total of $62.6 million.

The film stars Andrew Koji,ย Noah Centineo,ย Callina Liang,ย Joe ‘Roman Reigns’ Anoa’i,ย David Dastmalchian,ย Cody Rhodes,ย Eric Andrรฉ,ย Andrew Schulz,ย Vidyut Jammwal,ย Orville Peck,ย Don Lee,ย Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson, andย Jason Momoa.
