The talk of the ‘Toon’ is about to get a ‘dark heart’ when Newcastle and the city’s iconic Tyneside Cinema is set to be Tubi FrightFest third home early next Summer!

The UK’s legendary and most celebrated festival of horror, fantasy, and sci-fi cinema, forming an exciting new partnership. May 2027 the cinema will host the new event that promises to a deliver a blood-soaked weekend of exclusive film premieres and special guest appearances.

As we know the main Tubi FrightFest happens at the end of August when it takes over central London. Next up in March will be Glasgow in March which has been part of the Glasgow Film Festival for 21 years. The Newcastle announcement marks now 2 Northern homes for FrightFesters, exciting times for genre fans in the North East.

“Tyneside Cinema is incredibly excited to work with Tubi FrightFest in bringing the Dark Heart of Cinema to Newcastle for the very first time in 2027” said Tyneside Cinema’s head of cinema & operations Dan Lauder. “Horror is a unique and fascinating genre that can scare and mesmerise in equal measure, and there is no better way to celebrate it than by hosting one of best horror film festivals around. Combining our storied independent cinema in its 90th year with FrightFest’s superb programming, Tubi FrightFest Newcastle promises to be a devilishly goodtime.”
