The Big Yin To Be The Wee Yin In THE HOBBIT! Billy Connolly!

Just when you thought it was safe to say Peter Jackson has his cast for The Hobbit films today The Big Yin Billy Connolly has joined the cast as the wee yin. The legendary Scottish stand up comedian come actor will join the bearded legion of actors in New Zealand to play the great dwarf warrior Dain Ironfoot the cousin of Thorin Oakenshield, who fights in the Battle of Five Armies near the Lonely Mountain.

In a statement to Heat Vision blog Peter Jackson announced Billy Connolly will be the final cast member to The Hobbit, here’s what the statement said –

“We could not think of a more fitting actor to play Dain Ironfoot,” said Jackson, “the staunchest and toughest of Dwarves, than Billy Connolly, the Big Yin himself. With Billy stepping into this role, the cast of The Hobbit is now complete. We can’t wait to see him on the battlefield!”

You might be thinking how can Billy Connolly who is over 6 foot play a dwarf? Remember Gimli played by John Rhys Davies? He is 6 foot 1 and like the rest of the Dwarfs and hobbits they will use the same techniques as they’ve done in the past. Jackson says the cast is complete, until we see the film in print we’ll take nothing for granted but what we are excited about is seeing the Big Yin kicking ass, cracking jokes!

THE HOBBIT:AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY will be with us 14th December 2012 with the final part coming 13th December 2013 with THE HOBBIT:THERE AND BACK AGAIN.
