This Week In Horror
NOSFERATU
It was announced this week that Robert Eggars will direct a remake of the iconic horror flick Nosferatu as his follow-up to horror stunner The VVitch. Below the line debate continues to rage intensely after every mention of this ultra divisive movie, yet nobody can criticise the artistry and authentic realism it commands.
The original, directed by F.W. Murnau (Faust), was a landmark psycho-drama and it will be fascinating to witness Eggars’ interpretation so soon after creating one of his own.
EMBRYO
One of the most unashamedly bonkers horror flicks of the year so far is Patricio Valladares’ Downhill. This week Screendaily revealed the latest nefarious plans of the irrepressible Chilean director.
Embryo will see him tackle body horror full on using the Chernobyl disaster as a morally dubious backdrop and renew his collaboration with rising genre star, and Bolshoi Ballet alumni, Natalie Burn(Active Shooter).
The movie is scheduled to begin shooting late 2017.
THE WALKING DEAD
This week Easy Street by The Collapsable Hearts Club proved that one man’s torture is another man’s tune.
The insidious earworm from last week’s The Walking Dead episode Cell rose as high as number 18 in the i Tunes top 100 and made #1 on the US SPOTIFY viral charts!
Songwriter Jim Bianco had this to say before broadcast – “It’s upbeat and fun, which is kind of the opposite of the show’s vibe, which is why I think it’s going to be brilliant and ironic.”
He was indeed correct.
DON’T BREATHE
Fede Alvarez ( Evil Dead) announced his intention to expand upon the “Blind Man” character from Don’t Breathe with a sequel. It is not clear what the Bad-ass with a baster will be up to, but Alvarez intends to direct.
The first flick was a big financial smash relative to its budget and this news proves that the talented director is one to watch ahead of his upcoming stab at the Millennium Series with The Girl in the Spider’s Web.
Horror Trailer Of The Week
The talented Jordan Peele fills the director’s chair for the first time for horror thriller Get Out. This politically timely flick follows a young African American man as the shit hits the racism-fan when he visits his Caucasian girlfriend’s cursed family estate.
British actor Daniel Kaluuya stars in a stop over point during his graduation from Parking Pataweyo to W’Kabi, commander of the Black Panther armed forces.
Horror Christmas Cards Of The Week
After the success of last year’s young John McClane cards, Last Exit To Nowhere reprises the idea for this festive season with Ellen Ripley from Alien.
