Watch UK trailer for A Most Violent Year

A-Most-Violent-Year

A month or so after releasing the teaser trailer, Icon have released the full UK trailer for crime drama, A Most Violent Year.  A film that has already been receiving praise on the critical circuit, A Most Violent Year was awarded Best Film of the Year by the National Board of Review earlier last week.

Directed by the excellent Academy Award nominee JC Chandor (Margin Call, All Is Lost), the film tells the story of Abel and Anna Morales (Oscar Isaac and Jessica Chastain).  Set in New York at the tail end of 1981, statistically the most violent year in the city’s history, immigrant Abel fights to protect his business and family.

With Oscar Isaac (Inside Llewyn Davis) and Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty) both receiving award nominations for their previous work (Isaac is a Golden Globe nominee, Chastain has been twice nominated for an Academy Award) A Most Violent Year has some serious acting credentials behind it.  The pair have been credited by critics for their excellent on-screen chemistry together, and Isaac is said to be particularly impressive in the lead role.

With echoes of Scorsese, the trailer shows the dark nature of the city and the era, with ‘Inner City Blues’ by Marvin Gaye played over the top.  This doesn’t look to be a light-watch, but it certainly looks to be a compelling one, and don’t be surprised to see it mentioned a lot more come award season.

Also starring David Oyelowo, Alessandro Nivola, and Albert Brooks, A Most Violent Year is released in UK cinemas on 23rd January.
