Anna Kendrick sings in first trailer for The Last Five Years

Not content with wowing us with her vocal talents in trailers for upcoming films Into The Woods and Pitch Perfect 2, Anna Kendrick is now singing her way through the new trailer for The Last Five Years.

Based on the hit off-Broadway musical, The Last Five Years tells the story of the relationship between struggling actress Cathy (Anna Kendrick) and rising novelist Jamie (Jeremy Jordan).  The story is told in an unusual way, with Cathy’s version of events in reverse order, beginning at the demise of their marriage, whilst Jamie’s story is told from when the pair first meet.

The trailer hints at the narrative style, starting out with Cathy in tears, and then rewinding (or fast-forwarding?) to happy times where the focus is more on Jamie.  The excellent music has been composed by Tony-award winning composer and lyricist Jason Robert Brown, and seems to capture the mood of the couple in the different relationship stages.

Written and directed by the man behind P.S. I Love You, Academy Award nominee Richard LaGravenese (The Fisher King), audiences are sure to be in store for a touching, romantic tale.

The Last Five Years will be released in UK cinemas in Spring 2015.
