He gave us some of the cheesiest but fun movies of the 1980s and 1990s with Robocop, Starship Troopers, now Paul Verhoeven goes back to his noir roots with Elle.
Starring French actress Isabelle Huppert after a fantastic reception on the film festival circuit since it’s world premiere at Cannes Film Festival. Now Picturehouse Entertainment has sent us the movies official UK Trailer and see why Elle is been hotly tipped for Oscar glory…
In Elle, Huppert is Michèle LeBlanc; founder and CEO of a successful video game company, who is attacked in her own home. Taking what appears to be a desire to shrug off the terrifying incident, she locks the door after her attacker and refuses to tell the police. Upending our expectations, Michèle begins to track down her assailant, and soon they are both drawn into a curious and thrilling game, one that at any moment may spiral out of control.
It’s been a long long time since we’ve said ‘one of Paul Verhoeven’s best movies in a long time‘. We’ve had endless great reviews, as well as numerous film critics awards, it’s even the French entry into Best Foreign movie for the Oscars. Despite the wonderful response, the movie does have a rape scene that has caused several critics to call it grotesque. Portraying rape onscreen is a sensitive, hard subject to cover sadly this brutal crime happens and if it wasn’t covered respectfully and warrants inclusion in the movie we’re sure the cast and director wouldn’t have signed up for the movie.
Elle is set for a UK&Irish release date of 10th March 2017 and will co-star Laurent Lafitte, Anne Consigny.
