When it comes to films from Indonesia, Gareth Evans The Raid films and The Mo Brothers. The country has opened many eyes of genre fans and ARROW might just have the next must see Indonesian film…Vengeance is Mine, All Others Pay Cash.
The film is directed by filmmaker that goes by the name, Edwin. Described as a weird and wonderful coming-of-age story about… a young man who can’t get it up. The film mixes action, romance, outrageous comedy and social critique to delirious effect.
With echoes of early Takashi Miike, Vengeance is Mine, All Others Pay Cash is a wild and unexpectedly poignant meditation on toxic masculinity and a culture steeped in violence from one of Indonesia’s most exciting directorial voices. You won’t see another film quite like it this year – we’d put money on it (cash, obviously).
ARROW have sent us the Official UK Trailer, check it out. It’s certainly a homage to 80s and 90s action films and much more, playful and even a bit bonkers!
Ajo Kawir (Marthino Lio) is a fighter who fears nothing, not even death. But his raging urge to fight is driven by a secret – his impotence, resulting from a traumatic childhood memory. When he crosses paths with a tough female fighter named Iteung (Ladya Cheryl), Ajo gets beaten black and blue, but he also falls head over heels in love. Will Ajo’s path lead him to a happy life with Iteung, and, eventually, his own peace of mind?
The film stars Marthino Lio, Ladya Cheryl, Reza Rahadian and Ratu Felisha.
Vengeance is Mine, All Others Pay Cash will premiere on ARROW from 5th August.
