Watch UK Trailer For Highly Regarded La Bola Negra
Altitude Films have unveiled the UK Trailer for the highly regarded and deeply moving Spanish drama La Bola Negra ahead of of it’s cinema release this Autumn.
Ever since Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi‘s LGBTQ drama made it’s debut earlier this year at Cannes Film Festival, the buzz for this film has been big. The filmmakers are also collectively known as Los Javis would win the festival’s the Best Director Award. There is talk this film may also be Spain’s potential Oscar contender, we would not be surprised with some critics calling it the ‘defining European Film of the year‘.
La Bola Negra (or The Black Ball in English), is being described as a sweeping, emotionally charged story of love, memory and inheritance spanning three generations. It’s set across 3 different years
and a fearless exploration of queer identity and the lives erased by history.
The film stars acclaimed musician Guitarricadelafuente in his feature film debut. Carlos González as Alberto, and Miguel Bernardeau as Rafael. The civil war in Spain was a dark period of history for the country. This was a time being gay or simply different from what they called ‘normal’ could even cost you your live. Powerful stuff…
Synopsis | LA BOLA NEGRA tells the story of three men whose lives are intimately connected through desire, pain and inheritance, across three different eras – 1932, 1937 and 2017. Rich with Lorca’s poetry and suffused with desire, grief and hope, it is an intimate love story and a sweeping exploration of memory, inheritance and queer history, honouring those whose lives and loves were too often forced into silence.
The film also stars Penélope Cruz, Glenn Close, Milo Quifes, plus Lola Dueñas.
La Bola Negra in the UK and Ireland is getting a cinema release, that date is 6th November. In the U.S Netflix are releasing the film the same day, with the Spanish cinema release 25th September.
