Julianne Moore in The Glorias

Roadside Attractions has released the official Trailer for feminist leader Gloria Steinem‘s biopic film, The Glorias.

The film is directed by acclaimed filmmaker Julie Taymor (Frida) and is based on Gloria Steinem‘s autobiography ‘My Life on the Road’. Covering the fascinating life of the iconic activist through four iterations of her life with Julianne Moore, Alicia Vikander, Lulu Wilson, Ryan Keira Armstrong, playing one part each.

Starting as a young woman in India to the founding Ms. magazine in New York. To her the rise of the womenโ€™s rights movement in the 1960s and beyond.

It’s not your average biopic especially using a different actress in each part of her life. If you watched the recent Ms.America series recently shown on BBC Two might give you an idea the approach this film is trying. Many reviews have called this one highly ambitious and it’s intriguing to see feminism through different decades

Journalist, fighter, and feminist Gloria Steinem is an indelible icon known for her world-shaping activism, guidance of the revolutionary womenโ€™s movement, and writing that has impacted generations. In this nontraditional biopic, Julie Taymor crafts a complex tapestry of one of the most inspirational and legendary figures of modern history, based on Steinemโ€™s own biographical book โ€˜My Life on the Road.โ€™ THE GLORIAS (Julianne Moore, Alicia Vikander, Lulu Wilson, Ryan Keira Armstrong) traces Steinemโ€™s influential journey to prominenceโ€”from her time in India as a young woman, to the founding of Ms. magazine in New York, to her role in the rise of the womenโ€™s rights movement in the 1960s, to the historic 1977 National Womenโ€™s Conference and beyond.

Taymor gives us her singular take on that rare genre- the Female Road Picture, one in which the female leads do not die in the end, and where the โ€œnarrativeโ€ is not driven by romance or a bad marriage, or unrequited love or, for that matter, men. Gloriaโ€™s road story is about her โ€œMeetings With Remarkable Womenโ€. And that is a love story in itself.

The film includes aย  cast number of iconic women who made profound contributions to the womenโ€™s movement, including Dorothy Pitman Hughes (Janelle Monรกe), Flo Kennedy (Lorraine Toussaint), Bella Abzug (Bette Midler), Dolores Huerta (Monica Sanchez) and Wilma Mankiller (Kimberly Guerrero).

The Glorias will be released on Digital and exclusively streaming on Amazon Prime from 30th September.
