Margrete Queen of the North (Siganture Entertainment)

Stories and films about Royalty can be slow even a little mundane, predictable in tone and pace. In sweeping Danish historical thriller/Drama Margrete: Queen of the North things look to be different. If anything epic in nature and today Signature Entertainment release the UK Trailer.

Directed by Charlotte Sieling (Borgen, The Bridge) and starring Trine Dyrholm (Love Is All You Need, In A Better World, A Royal Affair). Dyrholm plays the titular character Queen Margete who ruled Denmark, Norway and Sweden in peace with her adopted son Erik, however she finds herself now in a dilemma that can shatter that union.

After a solid festival run and a release Stateside, the film has been picking up very strong reviews. A very intense, sharing a bit of tone similar to The Game Of Thrones. If true, even a part of tone we might have a very good film on the cards!

Margrete: Queen of the North is a powerful and tense period drama about the untold story of the woman who united Scandinavia in a time of war. The year is 1402. Margrete has achieved what no man has managed before; she has gathered Denmark, Norway and Sweden into a peace-oriented union that she rules through her adopted son, King Erik. But a conspiracy is in the making and Margrete finds herself in an impossible dilemma that could shatter her life’s work.

The cast for this one includes Søren Malling, Morten Hee Andersen, Bjørn Floberg, Magnus Krepper, Thomas W. Gabrielsson, Agnes Rase, Simon J. Berger, Linus James Nilsson, and Halldóra Geirharðsdóttir.
