2011 seems to be the year our friends from outer space decided to give us a visit here on earth with Attack The Block, Battle Los Angeles, Transformers:Dark Of The Moon and later this month Cowboys & Aliens. With us now in the last half of 2011 it seems the trend is going to continue into 2012 when the THE DARKEST HOUR arrives at a Cinema screen near you.
I always remember in 1996 when I went to USA I was delving through the toy section of Walmart only to find my enjoyment spoiled by a vinyl figure of one of the aliens from Independence Day which was the movie to see that year. Movies with alien invaders sometimes you don’t really want to see who it is who wants to invade your lands until the movie comes out but as you know its become tradition to see the Aliens, so if your eager to see what the nasty critters look like in THE DARKEST HOUR you’ll be disappointed as there invisible!!!
The movie involves s group of young Americans (probably rich spoilt)in Moscow who then find themselves stuck in a middle of Alien invasion that has targeted world cities. It seems that not only have they come for our vast energy supply, they are invisible and will literally disintegrate anybody who gets in their way. Despite the fact the invaders are invisble its actually nice to see the tired genre getting a fresh approach which keeps us interested in what this movie has to offer.
Chris Gorak is directing with Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted, Night/Daywatch ) producing and with visual/special fx being key to the movie it should be good to see more. The movie is Starring Emile Hirsch, Olivia Thirlby, Max Minghella, Rachel Taylor, Joel Kinnaman and Greg Kinnear, check out the new trailer below along with some concept art.
THE DARKEST HOUR will be released in UK&Ireland on January 13th, 2012.
