Blue Finch Films have unleashed the beast and released the eerie UK Trailer for British Folk Horror, The Severed Sun.
This one stars Emma Appleton, Toby Stephens, Barney Harris, Lewis Gribben, Oliver Maltman, and James Swanton. The film is directed by Dean Puckett who has made a name for himself thanks to his short films.
The Severed Sun takes us into the heart of a religious community isolated from the outside world. A young woman kills her abusive husband and her pastor father makes her an outcast. This unleashes a beast which unleashes carnage on the community.
This looks atmospheric and a study of the darker side of human psyche …
Official Synopsis:
In the heart of an isolated religious community, The Pastor delivers his fervent sermons to a devoted congregation. But dark secrets fester. In the depths of the forest, The Pastor’s daughter, Magpie, takes desperate action, ending the life of her abusive husband. Little does she know, his murder will unleash a malevolent force – a mysterious beast with shimmering white eyes.
The Severed Sun is the feature debut of writer/director Dean Puckett, whose short films The Sermon, The Devil’s Footprints and Satan’s Bite have screened at festivals including BFI Flare, Sitges and FrightFest.
It stars Emma Appleton (Traitors, LOLA), Toby Stephens (Black Sails, Lost in Space) and Jodhi May (The Witcher, Gentleman Jack).
The Severed Sun will be released on Digital Platforms in the UK and Ireland from 6th October. There will be a limited number of screenings with Q&A from 29th September, we don’t have any details of which cinemas will be screening the film.
