Watch new Monsters: Dark Continent trailer
The director of the original Monsters, Gareth Edwards, may now be on to better and bigger things with the new Star Wars films, but it’s hard to imagine him getting so near to that galaxy far, far away without the creativity and intensity he presented in his first film. Hoping to follow the success of Edwards, whilst putting an original spin on the story is the writer (alongside Jay Basu) and director of the sequel, Monsters: Dark Continent, Tom Green.
Synopsis – Ten years on from the events of Monsters, and the ‘Infected Zones’ have now spread worldwide. In the Middle East a new insurgency has begun. At the same time there has also been a proliferation of Monsters in that region. The Army decide to draft in more numbers to help deal with this insurgency.Â
Just as the first film focuses on the human story, and is more of a road movie than a monster one, this appears to be heavy on the war aspect, whilst keeping the monsters as the driving force behind everything. Based on this trailer, and the previous one, it certainly looks like it could be an interesting take on the story.
Monsters: Dark Continent is released in UK cinemas on 1st May and stars Johnny Harris, Sam Keeley, Joe Dempsie, Kyle Soller, Parker Sawyers and Nicholas Pinnock.
