In the U.S this film is Called Young Werther, reasons for the name change for the UK release we unsure why. The former film title comes from Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s 1774 novel The Sorrows of Young Werther. The film premiered back at Toronto Film Festival in September, and left with some great reviews. The modern take on the adaptation surprised many even if the narrative has been around for a very long time. Life has many unexpected twists especially in love and having laugh at it when it has those twist is refreshing.
I’ve Never Wanted Anyone More is the directorial feature debut for José Avelino Gilles Lourenço. Werther (Booth) is a young writer who finds his love of his life, that woman (Pill) is engaged. Can he win her heart?
Douglas Booth’s heart wants what it wants – even when what it wants is an engaged woman in this romcom. While on a simple errand to Toronto, a carefree and charming young writer named Werther stumbles across the love of his life only to discover that the young woman is engaged. Despite the urgings of his hypochondriac best friend, Werther turns his world upside down in a desperate, misguided and hilarious quest to win her heart. Starring Alison Pill (Scott Pilgrim vs. The World), Patrick J. Adams (Suits), Douglas Booth (Pride and Prejudice and Zombies) and Iris Apatow (Funny People), I’ve Never Wanted Anything More is written and directed by José Avelino Gilles Corbett Lourenco based on Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s 1774 novel The Sorrows of Young Werther.
The film also stars Iris Apatow, Patrick J. Adams, Amrit Kaur, and Jaouhar Ben Ayed. I’ve Never Wanted Anyone More is available on UK Digital Platforms on 3rd February 2025.
