Inspired by Fritz Lang‘s terrifying seminal 1927 sci-fi Masterpiece Metropolis, 22 years later was made into a Japanese animation by Osamu Tezuka. In 2001 anime legend Katsuhiro Otomo (Akira) and directed by Rintaro (Galaxy Express 999), decided to bring the ‘Godfather of Anime’ vision of Metropolis a new audience. 2017 that spectacular film will be available for first time on Blu-ray and thanks to Eureka Entertainment we have a stunning new trailer

In the industrial, tri-level world of Metropolis, Duke Red is a powerful leader with plans to unveil a highly advanced robot named Tima. But Duke Red’s violent son Rock distrusts robots and intends to find and destroy Tima. Lost in the confusing labyrinth beneath Metropolis, Tima is beginning a friendship with the young nephew of a Japanese detective. But when Duke Red separates the two innocents, Tima’s life – and the fate of the universe – is dangerously at stake.

Osamu Tezuka inspired so many great animators like Hayao Miyazaki, even seen as the Disney of Japan with Walt Disney an inspiration. Not many Animes can say they were considered as a nominee for Best Animated Feature at The Oscars. He also created  Jangaru Taitei that was turned into a USA syndicated series in the 60s called Kimba The White Lion. This story was then plagiarised by The Disney Company in 1994 and became The Lion King. This is one anime you should not be without!
