Her Private Hell trailer

MUBI has announced the upcoming UK and Ireland theatrical release date for Her Private Hell, the highly anticipated film from director Nicolas Winding Refn (Drive,ย The Neon Demon).

It will be released on 25th September, following its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival last month. The film has generated a lot of critical discussion since its initial showing, emerging as one of the festivalโ€™s most talkedโ€‘about titles, widely applauded for its bold vision and uncompromising style.

Itย stars Sophie Thatcher alongsideย Charles Melton,ย Kristine Froseth,ย Havana Rose Liuย andย Diego Calva. The film’s synopsis says that a mysterious mist engulfs a futuristic metropolis, unleashing a deadly, elusive entity. Soon, a heinous killer known as Leather Man goes around the city taking the lives of women, and a troubled young woman searching for her father collides with an American GI on a harrowing odyssey to rescue his daughter from Hell.

It will be Refnโ€™s first feature film after a ten-year sabbatical from directing movies. His last feature was The Neon Demon, a body-horror acid trip starringย Elle Fanning that debuted at Cannes in 2016. Since then, heโ€™s stayed busy in television, directingย Copenhagen Cowboy for Netflix,ย Too Old to Die Young for Amazon Prime Video, and producingย The Famous Five. He has previously described the film as an original story filled with โ€œglitter, sex, and violenceโ€.

According to reports, it will revisit themes and possibly characters from some of his previous works. Refn will direct from a script he co-wrote with Esti Giordani (Vida) and produce under his ownย byNWR banner. Executive producers include Takuma Takasaki, Kimberly Willming, Christina Erritzรธe, and Lene Bรธrglum, with Pino Donaggio (Carrie, Donโ€™t Look Now) composing the score.

Her Private Hell will release in UK cinemas on September 25th.
