Last month HBO released first images, release details for True Crime drama The Staircase staring Colin Firth and Toni Collette. HBO Max unfortunately isn’t available here in the UK, however SKY is and today they announce they will premiere the eight part limited series.

Based on a true story, The Staircase further explores the life of Michael Peterson (played by Firth), his sprawling North Carolina family, and the suspicious death of his wife, Kathleen Peterson (Collette).

This gritty true life story has fascinated true crime fans for a long time. French filmmaker Jean-Xavier de Lestrade made the documentary series also calledThe Staircase‘ in 2004. That series was released in 2018 by Netflix with three new episodes. There has been talk of a drama of the crime for a while with Harrison Ford one name that has been mentioned at one time to star in this drama.

Starring alongside Colin Firth and Toni Collette are Michael Stuhlbarg (Your Honor), Juliette Binoche (Chocolat), Dane DeHaan (ZeroZeroZero), Olivia DeJonge (Elvis), Rosemarie DeWitt (Little Fires Everywhere), Tim Guinee (Inventing Anna), Patrick Schwarzenegger (Moxie), Sophie Turner (Game of Thrones), Vincent Vermignon (Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion), Odessa Young (Shirley) and Parker Posey (Lost in Space).

Co-produced by Annapurna Television, the eight episode limited series is written and executive produced by showrunners Antonio Campos (The Devil All The Time, Christine) and Maggie Cohn (Versace). Campos also directs six episodes, with Leigh Janiak directing two episodes.

There is no word on which exact Sky channel the series will be on. The Staircase will be released during Spring on Sky and their streaming channel NOW.
