Transformers 4 And 5 To Be Filmed Back To Back With Jason Statham with Bay Returning Too?

No matter what you think of Transformers Dark Of The Moon it was a major box office success worldwide joining the exclusive $1 billion dollar club. You can’t deny a film studio the right to go ahead with more films despite critics destroying it, lets be honest people must be liking it or least wanting to check it out, you don’t get $1 billion these days for nothing. The talk of the post release wasn’t if they where going to make a 4th film it was who will direct it and who will be the lead star especially when Michael Bay, Shia LaBeouf ย both expressed no interest in returning, however the ย key thing here is the box office return and yesterday Michael Bay and Steven Spielberg could be returning for Transformers 4.
THRย are reporting Bay, Spielberg are in ‘active talks’ with Hasbro and Paramount to return to directing (Spielberg his usual executive spot) which now he’s seems ‘interested’ again to do though we do know he will be back in the team at least as a executive producer like Spielberg . If he does return as director what would that mean for Bay’s next project Pain And Gain? It’s said he would work on it now and up to start of production of Transformers 4. I do hope he doesn’t give up on Pain and Gain as this is a smaller project and Im always intrigued to see directors who have either been working in major blockbusters taking the step down slightly or directors going the opposite upwards into a major project its a test of character to see how they cope in ‘new waters’. But is going back to the franchise a wise move?
Varietyย today have broke the news that Transformers 4 and 5 maybe filmed back to back, why? Money! Despite $3 billion (ยฃ1.8 Billion) worldwide on the franchise ย Paramount want’s to save on the pennies ย especially during these hard economic times. It’s understanding in the sense one major project cost major money to create but could dive at the box office which could seriously damage the bank balance, but like everything ย the costs to make things like the increasing special effects, ever increasing actors contracts, ย and the usual spin-offs from major franchise (with it been Hasbro toys!). ย The tatic of filming back to back films isn’t new plus has proven successful in most cases with The Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows ย the most notable success, we have first part of Twilight Saga:Breaking Dawn Part 1 next month and Just Lin has Fast And Furious 6 & 7 to come, however The Matrix was probably the earliest back 10 years ago. ย back to back films will help the creative flow work meaning they can sort out any niggling problems sorted at once , letting screenwriteย Ehren Kruger ย get a story that flows between two films naturally. Also getting to film back to back will get cast as well as crew onboard for a fraction of the cost of 2 separate contracts, saving time too!
With Mr LaBeouf want to further his acting abilities into more diverse creative projects this gives Paramount the scope to start up a new franchise possibly direction ย with a new name behind them as lead actor. Since the word was out film 4 was coming Jason Statham has been constantly connected to come onboard, though nothing has been confirmed offered, though I dont mind Statham he has been the typed casted hard man been making generic thrillers which may seem him eventually end up in ย direct to dvd hell, so do Paramount want to take that route or could this be the break Statham needs to get into bigger better things?
